Spent most of yesterday phonebanking to Connecticut, which did not take my advice on the Senate race, but did listen to reason regarding some important House seats. Am hoarse and have a whopping cold. But came out of my Dayquil fog and 3 budget meetings to see that Montana and Virginia are both lookin good for the Dems. My cup runneth over.

All in all, a good day's work.

I salute you for your day in the trenches. Silly Connecticutters, not to follow your eminently sensible advice. We'll have to keep an eye on Joe. But overall, we did more than OK, I think. I am levitating, gently, over the fact that the Cradle of the Confederacy itself has (apparently) tossed George Allen out on his sorry racist wife-abusing ass, thereby securing the Senate for the forces of light (with the help of one or two other, minor states). 73% for Webb in Arlington! Civilization is spreading, slowly, south from the Potomac. Note quite all there yet (c.f. gay marriage amendment) but we're working on it . . .

Go, Virginia! 7,000 votes! And yet Americans think their vote don't count. My very own Charlie Rangel is going to chair Ways and Means. *wobbles dizzily*

Too bad about the gay marriage ban, and also the ban on affirmative-action hiring in Michigan and other places. The Repugs thought these nasty little hot-buttons would bring the vote out for them, the creeps. What kind of party *wants* to attract the bigotry-and-hatred vote, and considers it a "base"? Weird.

So I suppose the good news is that voters are smart enough (just) to come to the polls, vote their personal biases on narrow ballot questions, and vote more broadly on Congress. Honestly, I think 20 years from now, a ban on gay marriage will look as quaint and outdated and grotesque as a ban on racially mixed marriage. Look how quickly those laws disappeared once the tide changed. So I hope the most liberal wing of the party (us) can be a little patient. We have 2 years to consolidate support and turn an anti-Bush vote into a pro-Dem vote. Otherwise this is worth nothing.

Weirder still are the 1/3 of white Christian fundamentalists who apparently became swing voters this week on the grounds that they are pro-Prince of Peace and therefore antiwar. WTF? They suddenly noticed that the GOP is a war party? What woke them up?? Or it may be that they were just disgusted by the breadth of corruption this administration has displayed. Hopefully some of the oversight committees that were disbanded will be reconvened.

Am v. happy today. Am v. late to work.
