So, quite by chance, I happened upon this yesterday, while looking for something perfectly normal on the Getty Research Institute website:

"Metadata Standards Crosswalk: a mapping of elements from different metadata schemas (e.g. Dublin Core, EAD, CDWA, VRA, etc.) to facilitate semantic interoperability and cross-repository searching. "

Well, if that isn't metametadata talkin' I don't know what is.

Am pretty sure the Dublin Core is a branch line Floo Hub.

LOL! I think you may be right!

Particularly because I have no idea what any of that actually means. *nods* Floo Hub. Yes.

Thanks! This will *so* come in handy. The reason I am needing to be flexible about metadata formats is partly because we are not yet sure whether an existing one might suit our needs, and if so, which. So this may be a huge help.

Dublin Core is *definitely* a branch line Floo Hub; I've been entertained by its name since I discovered it (it is the metadata format for my *other* project). The disappointing news is that it is named for Dublin, Ohio. Woe!

Good God, I had no intention of being helpful.

*Is shocked.*

The disappointing news is that it is named for Dublin, Ohio. Woe!

*Is crushed.* OTOH, the Metadata Standards Crosswalk is almost certainly that London zebra crossing in Cryptonomicon where Lawrence Waterhouse calculated the underlying structure of the universe while crossing the street.

Let's see: VRA = Visual Resources Assn, CDWA = something like the Categories of Data for Works of Art, and EAD = Encoded Archival Drivel.

Yup. It's a meta meta meta meta world.

*Returns to daily grind, facilitating semantic interoperability while obstructing human communication as far as possible.*

And just WHAT is wrong with Dublin, Ohio???
We would not have Wendy's without that town.
And that is all I have to say.
