Jun. 13th, 2003 09:39 amSo, quite by chance, I happened upon this yesterday, while looking for something perfectly normal on the Getty Research Institute website:
"Metadata Standards Crosswalk: a mapping of elements from different metadata schemas (e.g. Dublin Core, EAD, CDWA, VRA, etc.) to facilitate semantic interoperability and cross-repository searching. "
Well, if that isn't metametadata talkin' I don't know what is.
Am pretty sure the Dublin Core is a branch line Floo Hub.

Date: 2003-06-13 07:16 am (UTC)Dublin Core is *definitely* a branch line Floo Hub; I've been entertained by its name since I discovered it (it is the metadata format for my *other* project). The disappointing news is that it is named for Dublin, Ohio. Woe!

*Is crushed.* OTOH, the Metadata Standards Crosswalk is almost certainly that London zebra crossing in Cryptonomicon where Lawrence Waterhouse calculated the underlying structure of the universe while crossing the street.
Let's see: VRA = Visual Resources Assn, CDWA = something like the Categories of Data for Works of Art, and EAD = Encoded Archival Drivel.

Yup. It's a meta meta meta meta world.
*Returns to daily grind, facilitating semantic interoperability while obstructing human communication as far as possible.*

And that is all I have to say.
