So I just googled "Cheney hunting accident" because I am basically a charitable person and therefore did not google "Cheney Redefines 'Game'" (the headline I am hoping The Onion will run tomorrow).

The rightwing blogosphere seems to be taking the view that, hey, shooting a total stranger in the face is the kinda thing could happen to anyone, so why'nt you liberals just get over it, damn.

Me, I'm wondering if Cheney learned those superb marksman's skilz during his time in Vietnam. Oops, forgot: wasn't in Vietnam, was he?

Well, that explains it then.

ETA: Apparently not a total stranger; a good buddy. Vice President Cheney redefines the concept of "with friends like these, who needs an Enemy's List?" As we all know, in Cheneyworld, Everyone Is an Enemy.

You've never seen him and Elmer Fudd together, have you?

Hee. You have killed me. Not in a Cheney-in-the-face way... in a ha-ha funny way. You know.

The vic was a lawyer, which a lot of people would consider a mitigating factor. ("Cheney, you're doing a heck of a job"?)

I think it was Twain who said that no man's life or property are safe when the Legislature is in session? Turns out to be a little more literally true than he meant.

NANDI: They should be able to do it, if they've got guns and brains at all.
INARA: They've got guns.

Heh. This suggests a new approach to the Vice President's role as tie-breaker in the Senate. Bothered by those pesky filibusters? Fret no more! Shoot 'em in the face! After all, most of 'em are lawyers too!

Actually, *much* to my surprise, Jonah Goldberg over at the Corner is taking the stand that shooting people accidentally is pretty stupid, and that Cheney looks bad and deserves to.

Maybe because to take any other position would make him look like a raving idiot? The victim is in intensive care with a face full of buckshot and Cheney is lucky he isn't facing criminal charges.

Actually, of course, luck has nothing to do with it.

It'll be interesting to see if he asserts sovereign immunity in the civil suit.

Let's see, so far he's claimed divine right sovereign immunity for torture, jailing people without charge, waging sekrit wars, lying to Congress, and spying on citizens without a warrant.

Yeah, ok: I'll take that bet.

I *know* it's not funny, but the front page of the NY Times today says "Texas officials said on Monday night that Mr. Cheney would be issued a warning citation for hunting without a proper game stamp on his license."

So evidently lawyers have a short season. And here I thought they could be harvested in any month with an "R".
