Headline from The New York Sun, June 4, 2004: "Obesity Could Be More Widespread Than Thought"

Yeah, I believe that. I mean, just how widespread is thought these days?

OK, so the Sun ain't the most well-edited newspaper in the world...

Bertrand Russell: "Many people would sooner die than think. In fact they do."

From NPR yesterday morning: Morning Edition, September 27, 2004:

"NPR's Renee Montagne talks to NPR's Cokie Roberts about the closing gap in the latest poll numbers between President Bush and Sen. John Kerry. Roberts explores why President Bush's numbers seem to be slipping and what the polls show in the all-important battleground states."

OK, folks, this is it. The campaign begins on Oct. 1.

My father used to call Cokie Roberts "the Whore of Babylon." He's old skool. Still makes me smile.

OK I'm revving my engines. You should check out [livejournal.com profile] hederahelix's post about voter reg obstruction in Ohio.

I fear it would only depress me. Am girding loins for phone banks and doorbell ringing (both of which I loathe) in PA. Do not want to be discouraged.

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.. (Ephesians 6:12)

Pippin: Is there any hope, Gandalf, for Frodo and Sam?

Gandalf: There never was much hope. Just a fool's hope.

Ugh, canvassing. Ugh. Go you. And the Ephesians quote is so perfect! To say nothing of the Shire. I wish I was feeling more righteous and less sad--I just feel sort of melancholy about it, even if we win... america's in a bad, bad way...
