Silent Snow, Pain in the Ass Snow
Feb. 13th, 2006 03:04 pmI don't for a minute believe that this is the biggest NYC snowfall on record evar. I remember skiing down West End Avenue one winter. Maybe it's the fastest big snowfall, or something. Anyway, very pretty indeed. The park at twilight looked like that Stieglitz photo that was used on the cover of Caleb Carr's novel, The Alienist.
Today, the city resembles certain neighborhoods of New Orleans, only, um, whiter. My houseguest of 10 days was supposed to go home last night but the airports were closed, so I had her for an extra day. This is the person who lends me, whenever I ask, her pied-a-terre in Venice, so I was not about to grouse, but 10 days is about the max for houseguests in a NYC apartment.
Snow is very beautiful, in its proper place, which is Ontario.
