Jul. 12th, 2003 02:22 pmJohn Leonard, in tomorrow's NY Times Book Review, has written the best review of OOTP I've read so far. It is delightful, and puts paid to the sour snipings of AS Byatt and Harold Bloom and the other self-appointed Gatekeepers of High Culture (*coughwilliamsafirecough*). And does it with style, too.
More to the point, Leonard has more or less convinced me to stop fretting about the flaws in OOTP. Patience, patience, my preciouss.
Harry Potter: Nobody Expects the Inquisition
He also mentions an essay by the wonderful mythologist Wendy Doniger ("who knows everything worth knowing at the University of Chicago" LOL), which is
here
And because it's interesting to compareadult attitudes now to those three years ago, here's Stephen King's review of GOF, from Back Before:
Wild About Harry
Would King today describe the series as "simple, uncomplicated fun," we wonderss?
And for those who want to read about Rowling's sports ethics, here's the Lipsyte article from 2000
Leonard remarks, "Me, I really liked standing in line at the first film with hundreds of talkative short people, all of whom had read the book. "
Amen.
