Remember John McCain?

When McCain was asked in a November 2005 Wall Street Journal interview about his opposition to the 2003 income and capital gains cuts, he didn’t oppose them on economic grounds. Instead, he felt they were “too tilted to the wealthy and I still do.” Asked to clarify his position, McCain explained, “We have a wealth gap in this country, and that worries me.” (quoted in http://www.realclearmarkets.com/articles/2008/10/our_everyone_gets_a_trophy_eco.html, which is an arm of Forbes Magazine)

If anyone doubts that this guy is gone, consider that his running mate seems to have taken over the campaign's discourse, and she is a Bush clone if ever we've seen one.

Have you read the Rolling Stone article? I keep reading/hearing *about* it, but except for bits on Jezebel I haven't read it.

Nope, me neither. Sounds like a bit of a hatchet job...

And yet - I don't believe in complete personality changes. There has to be an underlying John McCain who was the same John McCain we see now even when he was being all smiley on TDS.
