malsperanzaI wonder just how many marketing executives at WB lost their jobs when someone finally noticed that they had scheduled the release of the biggest kids' movie of the year on the same day as the new HP book. So much for weekend box office.
So, in solidarity with the struggling commercial film industry, while the rest of the world is standing in line to buy (gasp) a book, I am looking forward to an evening watchingJack Sparrow and Saruman Johnny Depp & friends eat candy.
Here's a gem from today's NY Times review by A.O. Scott:
"There has already been some debate about possible real-life models for Wonka. ... Mr. Depp, in a recent interview, has dropped the name of the Vogue editor Anna Wintour. To me, the lilting, curiously accented voice sounded like an unholy mash-up of Mr. Rogers and Truman Capote..."
