I can almost feel sorry for the guy. Almost.

What do you want to bet Rove stays and McClennan resigns?

It would take more than the president, the courts, the law, Congress, the press corps, or a decent respect to the opinions of mankind to get Karl Rove out of the White House.

Me, I'm hoping someone invites him to be the next premier of some ex-Soviet state like Belorus or Latvia or maybe Indiana, and he can't resist the opportunity to be a literal king. Youknow: one of those nifty red velvet capes with the ermine on and a sceptre thingy and divine right and whatnot. That's how the Russians got rid of Shevardnazde.

Alternatively, we might consider a small tactical nuclear device. It would mean the radical redesign of the Washington Mall afterward, of course, but I feel sure that the Dept. of the Interior could cope.

*Sigh* McClellan doesn't have Ziegler's gift for the immortal phrase . . . which is probably lucky for him. Though McC also seems to be less of a direct villain than Z. A sad state of decline in Press-Spokesmanhood, however.

A measured, moderate hooray for his refusal to indicate that W "continues to have confidence" in Rove.

Just a whiff of carrion on the morning breeze . . .

Ou sont les Jerry terHorsts of yesteryear?

Ah, if only Rove would go bother the Latvians. Although hard luck for them, eh?

See, what I really want is for this to lead to great investigative reporting followed by vice-presidential resignation followed by presidential resignation followed by a new president who would have a press secretary with a really complicated name.

And I happen to know that Jerry terHorst ended up his career as the lobbyist for the Truck Stop Owners Association of America. No kidding.

Priceless. I've been spending way too much time in red state truckstops and it's grand, grand to know that terHorst is in some small way responsible for the giant parking lots, huge BUF-fays, and cutthroat gas pricing of the Flying J-Petro-T/A continuum. How the mighty have fallen. Yay.
