I finally got down to Film Forum to see The Battle of Algiers last night. I hadn't seen it in many years, and was almost afraid that it might not live up to my memories of it, or that the political vicissitudes of the last decade might have made its arguments intolerable.

Well, its arguments are unbearable--in the sense that it addresses head-on the hardest, most terrible questions of our time. God, what a movie.

I might post about it later. Alls I'm gonna say for now is: If you are in the greater NY area, you have 3 more days to see it. Run, don't walk.

Wasn't it great? But a friend I saw t'other day was sure she remembered scenes that weren't in it-- a guy with a bomb strapped to his chest? She said another friend remembered this scene also. I can't believe we wouldn't have heard if it was bowlderized.
